Everybody loves Good News

I have some good news for you today!!!

Have you ever had someone come up to you and say, “I have good news and bad news; which one do you want to hear first”. There are people who hear this and say, “Tell me the bad news first….” because they want the Good news to cushion the shock of the bad news. And there are those who prefer to hear the Good news first. They want to be happy and believe that in the euphoria the Good news provides, they will be able to handle the bad news.

Everybody loves Good news. We want to hear news that brings us joy and excitement. Whenever my husband or children tell me they have good news, I get excited as I wonder what it will be. Of course, sometimes it's just silly news like a new burger place that has just opened up or that my daughter is about to watch her favorite show in our room while we're out of town. It is silly news, not really great or good news but it makes us happy and makes us laugh.

The same thing cannot be said about bad news though. Nobody likes bad news and once we know we are about to receive bad news, we usually brace ourselves for it. There is anxiety and great discomfort because we know that what we are about to hear is not something good. We may cringe as we await the bad news but there is one place where the news is always good and that place is with God.

God always has good news for his children and he is always thinking of how to make things better for us and not worse. He is always trying to lead us and guide us along the right path that will bring his wonderful plans for our lives to pass. We read this scripture last week and it is relevant this week as well. In Jeremiah 29 and verse 11, it says:

[11] For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

When God thinks about us, he thinks of ways to bless us and bring us good not evil. He thinks of us like a loving father would his son or daughter. Just the way a loving father gets goodies or a toy for their young child, so it is with God. That child knows their Daddy only ever brings good gifts from work, and so they are always eager to see Daddy. Does that sound like your relationship with God? Do you look forward to what he says as you read his Word? Is it good news to you or just boring words you are not sure of?

When the angels brought the news about the birth of Jesus, this is what they said.

[10] but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. [11] The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!

‭Luke 2:10-11 NLT‬

The angels said they had brought good news that would bring joy to ALL people and the good news was about the birth of the Savior. That good news totally changed lives and changed our lives when we came to know the Messiah and gave our lives to him. However if you have ever read this portion of scripture but have never made a commitment to Christ, that good news is useless and can do you no good. This good news was a game changer for humanity and it literally changed the trajectory of the lives of millions of people; ‘but only for those who believed and received the news.’

Those who have never yielded themselves to God and who do not have a vibrant relationship with Him, cannot benefit from this good news. Unlike most good news that only gratifies our flesh, this good news deals with the total being (spirit, soul and body) but only benefits us once we receive it and it never stops delivering. Did you get that? The good news God gives has no expiry date! You can read it everyday and it will still deliver what it promised but you have to believe what you read.

The Bible is a book full of good news but it once benefits those who believe AND receive that good news; so once again I repeat -

I have some good news for you today 🥳 🥳 🥳!!!

[11] It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. ‭Isaiah 55:11 NLT‬

This is the good news - that God’s word will produce fruit for you this week and it will accomplish all that you want it to, so that you prosper everywhere you send that word.

So, how do you respond to this good news? You make it your declaration. You send that word ahead of you this week and keep declaring that this week, I declare according to the word of God, that I am fruitful and prosper in all that I do because God's word says so!!!

Flourish in God this week.
