Does God know your Plans?
Every week, we look forward to what the week will bring. There are those who like to plan their week well ahead of time. Others will plan their week over the weekend. They plan their outfits for the office and for events that will occur in the course of the week. They plan the events, the meetings and trips they will make that week. The idea is to make sure that things run nicely and that there are no surprises.
Of course, we can never plan for every single thing that will occur during the week but people still try. If I am having a dinner party at home for example, (and I often do); I start planning two weeks before the event at the least. I plan the meal, source for my ingredients, make a budget and call in and prepare the people I will need to help with serving; and I normally let them know what time to arrive. I call the fish man well ahead of time if fish will be on the menu and I even make contingency plans in case it's not available. I plan, plan and plan and still get surprises.
If I am going to attend a meeting in the course of the week, I try to plan everything too. My transport has to arrive on time so I am not late. I plan and prepare what I will say at the meeting if I am speaking and I am sure I am no different from you in this regard. We usually plan our week to some degree because we want things to run smoothly. Of course, there are those who don't plan much. They just wing it but even for such people, they still plan for things like flights because of getting their tickets and arriving at the airport on time and so on.
We all plan to some degree but may often not allow God to direct our path. For many Christians, they only remember God when their plans fail. That is when they bring those plans before God and ask for his help. Last week, we talked about ‘Making our fellowship with God Seamless’ and this should include letting God know what we have in mind. The Bible says in Proverbs 3:5-6:
[5] Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; [6] In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV
Verse 6 deserves special attention. God will direct our path IF we acknowledge him. The NLT version puts it this way -
‘Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.’
We all need God to show us the path to take and there should be no area of our lives where he is not welcome. Sometimes, we may think - “I got this” so I don't need God but in this other area, I need his help. There should no area of our lives where there is an *Out of Bounds* or *Do not Enter* notice to God. We are courting trouble if this is the case because the enemy is always on standby to jump in and mess us up.
Many years ago, I somehow got it into my head that I did not need God's help when it came to choosing a life partner. I actually thought God might mess things up so I didn't ask (pray) for his help. As far as I was concerned, I knew my ‘specs’ and was not sure God did. “I will know him when I meet him” was my regular response if anyone asked me if I was praying about a husband. The guys who had approached me up until that time always said God told them that I was their wife, so I decided God and I were definitely not on the same page. He was always sending the wrong guys my way and so I was going to find the guy myself. I felt God would only muddle things up đ. (I never considered that those guys were following their desires and claiming it was God).
Can you even believe this? However it was true and people still think that was today. We still have areas of our lives where God is not welcome. We think we can take care of business just fine in those areas but the problem we have is a flesh problem. We do not want anything to mess with our own plans because we think God might have different plans. We don't trust God to take care of us as well as we would take care of ourselves.
Remember Proverbs 3:5? It says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding”. Trust God with all your heart. He can be trusted to take very good care of you if you will put your plans before him. Why? Well, because God actually has plans for you.
[11] For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
Left to your own devices, your plans are subject to your weaknesses, shortcomings and short sightedness. All you can see is what you want but God can see what is BEST for you; so put your plans before God this week. Acknowledge you need his help and that you will trust his judgment.
In God’s hands, your plans will not lead to disaster. Rather, they will give you a sure hope based on his word and they will guarantee your future. God's plans for you are good so give him your plans this week and flourish in God.
